Parachute Library addition and remodel

The Garfield County Library Parachute Branch held a ribbon-cutting Sept. 8 as it neared completion of an addition and remodel. The addition doubled the size of the library to more that 4,000 square feet. Library staff worked hard to keep the library open during months of construction and closed for just a handful of days. Usher completes Navy basicNavy Seaman Austin Usher, a 2004 Rifle High graduate, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training in Great Lakes, Ill. Austin is the son of Joyce Usher of Rifle and Thomas Usher of Macomb, Okla. During the eight-week program, Usher completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. Matthew Queen gets Marine Corps promotionMatthew Queen, a 1998 Glenwood High graduate, was recently meritoriously promoted to Marine Corps sergeant while serving with Marine Tiltrotor Test and Evaluation Squadron 22 at Marine Corps Air Station New River in Jacksonville, N.C. Queen is the son of son of Cathy and Darryl Queen of Glenwood Springs and joined the Marine Corps in November 2002.
