PATHS a "grassroots" effort
A very warm thank-you to the volunteers who gave up their Saturday morning on Nov. 8 to work on another phase of the soft-trail project.
Special thanks to PATHS members Thelma and Garry Zabel, Sue Maisch and Jim Sybert, Wendy Caldwell, Trish Kramer and Paul Salmen for their grunt work extraordinaire.
Prior to our work day, Steve “Maz” Maznio, from Character Builders, donated his time and equipment to prepare the surface near the 1500 block of Midland Avenue.
Tom “Tuck” Hunt and his wife, Jessica, from Allgreen Environmental Inc., gave their equipment, planting expertise and time to work side by side with us as we raked and reseeded the path.
A special thanks to the city of Glenwood Springs and the Glenwood Springs River Commission for their continued support and encouragement.
The Softtrail Project is a plan to develop “softer” surfaces for runners and walkers to complement existing concrete recreational sidewalks throughout the city.
Our current goal is to finish a looped soft trail around the Glenwood Springs River Trail. (Accessed at 8th Street Bridge or at 27th Street/Grand).
Volunteers completed phase I last June, providing runners and walkers with a soft surface of crusher fine stones on the River Trail from the Elementary School past the high school through O’Leary Park.
Watch this fall as we work together to extend soft trails further south on the River Trail. For more information on PATHS, contact nreinisch@vvh.org or tlacy@aol.com.
