Pick your favorites; it’s time for Locals’ Choice
This is important, although perhaps not quite as important as the recent Glenwood Springs election for City Council. The Post Independent’s Locals’ Choice 2015 nominations and voting have been under way since Friday. We encourage you to vote early and vote often.
Why do I see this annual recognition to be important?
First, anyone who offers a service or business takes pride in being the best. When a business provides great customer service or quality products at a fair price, loyal fans will cast their vote for that business. It is an honor for a business, service provider or individual in the community to be recognized by you.
Second, our community depends on tourism, as it is a major economic driver for all of us in Garfield County. Visitors turn to Locals’ Choice for suggestions of how best to enjoy their stay with us. Whether it is finding a great restaurant or learning about a great trail to hike, many tourists want to enjoy our area “like a local.” Just as social media tools such as Yelp or Google Plus provide feedback on businesses, count on the Locals’ Choice magazine to make buying or activity decisions.
Third, in our Local Life section, we have an opportunity to honor people in our communities. Doctors, teachers, dentists, nurses, law enforcement officers, firefighters, artists and others have the opportunity to be in the spotlight for a job well done.
This year we put a little spin on the contest. We are accepting write-in nominations in the early part of the voting period through April 30. As of Tuesday morning, we had well over 1,100 individual nominations. You will be able to vote daily through May 29.
Some folks have complained in the past that we allow people more than one vote. By allowing daily voting, it can help level the playing field for small businesses. By the nature of size, some businesses have a much larger fan base. There are small businesses that provide equal if not superior service or products in a subcategory, but just don’t have the customer base to win if we allowed only one vote. You know who you are.
Local businesses can purchase marketing on the Locals’ Choice digital ballot. By allowing you to vote daily, our customers will benefit, as they will be able to show you their messages on a regular basis throughout the voting process.
The easiest way to get to the ballot is to go to our home page, http://www.postindependent.com and scroll halfway down the page where you will see an advertisement for the contest. Just click on that or type http://www.goo.gl/ik1MyV into your browser.
Winners will be announced by the main stage at Strawberry Days on Friday. June 19. Winners will be featured in our special print and digital edition that will publish on Saturday, June 20.
