Playaways are here!
In honor of National Library Week, April 15-21, the Garfield County Libraries are presenting Playaways for your listening enjoyment.Would you like to listen to audiobooks on an MP3 player but you don’t have one? Well, the library has a solution for you. We now have Playaways. Playaways are similar to MP3 players and look like a small book. Each one has a complete audiobook on it, and is ready to go when you check it out. Some of the adult titles available are: The Da Vinci Code, Hannibal Rising and The Innocent Man. Children’s titles include Inkheart, Bridge to Terabithia and Charlotte’s Web. Come in to view the complete collection. The Playaways come with a fully charged battery, all you need is a set of ear buds. If you don’t have your own set, we will be happy to supply you with a pair to keep for only $1. Some of the unique features of Playaways are the ability to bookmark up to 50 passages. This means you can share your player with your family and each person can use the bookmark function to keep their place or to mark favorite passages. Users can also control the playback speed to adjust the narrator’s reading rate. Playaways also use a standard 3.5 mm stereo headphone jack, allowing listeners to use their own adapter to listen to the audio book through their home or car audio systems. So, the next time you want to listen to a book, think of your local library. Besides Playaways, we also offer downloadable audio books from Overdrive. These can be downloaded onto your computer, where you can listen to them or you can transfer them to your own MP3 device. We also have a large selection of audio books, suitable for non-readers through early grade school, called Tumblebooks. These are available through our Web site and can be watched and listened to while online, either from the library or at home. All of our branches have a large selection of audio books both on CD and tape. If there is an audio book you would like to listen to and we don’t have it, just let us know and we will do our best to locate it at another library and Inter-Library Loan it for you.You will need a library card to check out our Playaways and audio books. If you don’t have one, go to http://www.garfieldlibraries.org and sign up for one online. Or visit your local library and the librarians will be happy to sign you up for a library card in person. Have any questions? E-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call any one of our branches. Happy listening!
