Poll sparks remarks on owner responsibility

In last week’s online poll, we asked: “Do you agree with the law that lets dogs be killed in order to protect wildlife?”At the close of our poll on Friday, 64 percent of the people who responded agreed with the question. Here are some of the comments we received on our Web site, http://www.postindependent.com:– “Of course I agree. If you are a responsible owner you will not let a misbehaving animal bother other animals in the first place.”– “No, officials and others shouldn’t be allowed to kill dogs. Never!”– “A 35-pound dog a threat to wildlife? Come on people … what kind of people live in this valley? I would say your one-ton pickup is more of a threat than a 35-pound dog. Maybe we should shoot your one-ton pickup. Pet owners should be responsible for the actions of their pets. It shouldn’t be up to anyone else to decide that it should be shot.”– “A 35-pound pet can certainly be a threat to wildlife! What kind of people live in this valley, you ask? Ones that came here to see the wildlife and not to watch your stupid, free-ranging pets running at bay.”This week’s poll question asks: “Do you think Colorado should be a smoke-free state, as recent proposed legislation suggests?”To vote and post a comment, go to http://www.postindependent.com and look for the online poll near the bottom of the page.To vote and post a comment, go to http://www.postindependent.com and look for the online poll near the bottom of the page.
