The Two Rivers MOPS group will be meeting on Friday, March 5. All moms of preschoolers and expecting mothers are invited to join for fun, fellowship, speakers, food and more. This week’s speaker is Dr. Mary Glode, a well respected OBGYN in the area, speaking on Women’s Health Issues. MOPS meets every first, third and fifth Friday of the month from 9-11:30 a.m. at Mountain View Church, next to Buffalo Valley. Child care is provided for infants to kindergarten.

The American Red Cross will hold health and safety courses at locations in the Roaring Fork Valley. Introduction to Disasters, an introductory course for all Red Cross volunteers, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, at the Rifle Senior Center; a Mass Care class will also be held at the same location at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 11. Both classes are required for active participation on a Disaster Action Team. Registration: 945-2998.

The Roaring Fork Family Resource Centers will offer free one-night parenting workshops from 7-8:30 p.m. March 9 at the Carbondale Elementary School Library, March 10 at the Glenwood Springs Elementary School Library and March 11 at Basalt Elementary School’s Family Resource Center office. The courses will be offered in both English and Spanish separately, and will include free child care. March’s workshop is titled Blended Families and is designed for parents, stepparents, divorced families when one spouse has remarried and parents with foster and adopted children. The Glenwood Springs Special Olympics program is in need of track and field and aquatics coaches. The season runs approximately eight weeks with area competitions in May and the state competition held June 5-6 at University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. Six weeks of practice is recommended before athletes compete. A softball coach is also needed for June and July. Information: Julie Fite, 945-0395.

Dandelion Day, Carbondale’s celebration of the Earth, will take place on Saturday, May 8. A T-shirt design contest is under way; submit up to three different designs to Carbondale Town Hall’s front desk by April 12. Vendors are also sought; call Chris Loerscher, 704-4115
