Curves supports food drive
Curves 30 Minute Fitness and Weight Loss Center in Glenwood Springs will be taking part in the national “Food for Friends” food drive. Anyone joining Curves during the week of March 8 can bring a bag of nonperishable groceries and will have the normal service fee waived. Curves is located at 504 21st St. Information: 945-0660.
KDNK Bingo comes to Carbondale every Monday at Dos Gringos on Highway 133. The progressive bingo pot stands at $380, and cash prizes are awarded every game. Food specials, community spirit and folks of all ages gather each Monday to help support KDNK Community Radio. Games start at 7:15 p.m. promptly. Information: 963-0139.
CLuB 20 meets in Grand Junction
CLUB 20, the Voice of the Western Slope, is holding its spring educational meeting on Saturday, March 20, at Two Rivers Convention Center in Grand Junction. The meeting will include a forum of the 3rd Congressional District candidates, as well as discussions on homeland security, forest management, rural health care and much more. Patchwork of Stories
Carbondale Community School will design a “Patchwork of Stories” in an original production created by CCS’ students, teachers and parents at 7 p.m. March 17-18. Patchwork of Stories will be led by a troupe of storytellers who will piece together a quilt of myths, legends and fables; teachers, students and parents are busy writing scripts, researching history and preparing for the show. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under, now on sale at CCS and Sounds Easy. Information: 963-9647.
Art in Bloom
The Carbondale Council on Arts and Humanities is looking for both artists and floral designers to take part in an event of artistic interpretation titled Art in Bloom. The show will take place from April 5-20 with events happening on April 9-10. Applications are available at the CCAH Arts Annex at La Fontana Plaza and the registration deadline is March 12.
The early days of New Castle
The Frontier Historical Society and the Friends of the Glenwood Springs Library will sponsor the third program in their annual Winter Lecture Series, at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 18, at the library, 413 9th St. “A Look at the Early Days of New Castle” will be presented by Dale Shrull, the managing editor of the Montrose Daily Press. He is a seasoned, award-winning journalist who previously worked as a reporter and editor for both the Glenwood Post and its current incarnation, the Glenwood Springs Post Independent. Prior to taking the position in Montrose, he was the Editor and General Manager of the Rifle Citizen Telegram. Information: 945-5958 or 945-4448.
