MOPS meet

The Two Rivers MOPS group will be meeting from 9-11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 19. We invite all moms of preschoolers and expecting mothers to drop by. Once a year we take a break from speakers, crafts and discussions groups; on this “Game Day” we will be playing Bunko. Don’t worry if you’ve never played ” it is easy to learn and open to all! Mountain View Church, next to Buffalo Valley. Child care is provided for infants to kindergarten.

Exploring plant problems

Patrick McCarty, Colorado State University Cooperative Extension Agent in Garfield County, will be speaking on diagnosing plant problems at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, at the Rifle Fire Station. Those who have been having problems with their lawn, garden or trees may want to come listen and learn. Information: 625-3969.

PreSchool Pix date change

PreSchool Pix for Glenwood has been canceled for Friday, March 26, but will resume again at 10:30 a.m. on April 16 at the Glenwood Springs Library.

Carbondale trustee forum

In preparation for the Town Council election to be held on Tuesday, April 6, The Valley Journal and Carbondale Community Chamber of Commerce will co-sponsor a Trustee Candidate Forum from 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24, at Carbondale Town Hall.

Silt Business After Hours

The Silt Area Chamber of Commerce will have a Business After Hours from 5-7 p.m. on March 26 at Stoney Ridge Development (head north on 16th Street to the entrance of Stoney Ridge, on your left). Sponsored by Jeanett Lyon Realty at Stoney Ridge, 876-5940. Come see the views and learn more about Silt’s newest subdivision. Food, beverages and fun.

Silt needlework group

The Silt Historical Society needle work group meets from 1:30-4 p.m. every Friday at the Silt Historical Park. If you want time to work on projects or want to learn a project, please join us. Information: 876-5801.

Kindergarten registration

Registration for kindergarten and information for preschool will take place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, at Crystal River Elementary School, 160 Snowmass Drive. Please bring your child’s original birth certificate, social security card and immunization records in order to register your child. To enroll in kindergarten, the child must be 5 years old by Oct. 1, 2004. A $75 deposit is required to reserve a spot in the full-day kindergarten.

New Castle Lions seek new blood

The New Castle Lions Club is looking for enthusiastic people who are willing to be involved in serving the community. Come see what we are about. Whiteriver Avenue closure planned

During the construction of a new bridge over Rifle Creek at Whiteriver Avenue in Rifle, Whiteriver Avenue will be closed to all traffic between 16th Street and 18th Street. Traffic on Whiteriver Avenue will be required to detour around the construction site using 16th Street, Railroad Avenue and 18th Street. It is anticipated that the closure will start in late March and that the road will re-open in June 2004.
