Mothers’ group meets
Two Rivers MOPS will meet from 9-11:30 a.m. Friday, April 16, at Mountain View Church, next to Buffalo Valley. All moms of preschoolers and expecting mothers are welcome to attend for fun, fellowship, speakers, food and more. Adventure Park celebrates first anniversary
Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park will mark its first anniversary Friday and Saturday, April 23 and 24. Visitors can ride the Iron Mountain Tramway for free 4-10 p.m. Friday, and there will be live music at 6:30 p.m. Family-friendly events and live music will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. String Band at Summit Canyon
The Last Minute String Band will perform 8:30-11 p.m. Friday, April 16, at Summit Canyon in Glenwood Springs. The band plays a mix of acoustic, old-time and southern Appalachian hoedown tunes.
Forest volunteers needed
National Volunteer Week is April 18-24, and the White River National Forest needs your help. Because of federal budget cuts, volunteers are urgently needed to work on trails and at information centers and historic sites. Information: 963-8071 or http://www.wriainfo.org.
for mental-health support
Anyone with a family member who has mental-health issues can attend a free focus group at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 22. The focus group is a collaboration among Colorado West Regional Mental Health, EMPOWER West Slope, Mental Health Association West Slope, Federation of Families for Children’s Mental Health and the Grand Junction Alliance for the Mentally Ill. These groups want to hear from families about their mental-health needs so they can provide more support. RSVP and information: 704-0774.
Barn Dance and Chili Cook-off
The Fellowship of Christian Cowboys presents a barn dance, chili cook-off and silent auction 6-10 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at the Snyder Barn, Exit 94 off of Interstate 70. Tickets are $5 per person, $15 per family. Information: Stephanie, 625-0434.
Spaghetti dinner fund-raiser at Sopris Elementary
Help Sopris Elementary School fourth-graders raise money for an educational trip to Mesa Verde by attending a spaghetti dinner 5-7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 22, at the SES cafeteria. Dinner includes spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, dessert, and a beverage. Prices: Adults $6; Children $4; Family $20. Tickets are available from any SES fourth-grader until April 16 and then will be on sale at the door.
