Aug. 2 is deadline for sheepdog art contestMonday, Aug. 2, is the deadline for entries in the Meeker Classic Sheepdog Trials art contest. The theme is “sheepherding – dogs, sheep, and/or handlers.” First place entry will be used for 2005 Meeker Classic program and souvenir items. Information: 970-878-0955 or meekersheepdog.com.Carbondale Recreation CenterCitizen Committee formingThe town of Carbondale trustees are looking for residents to serve on a Recreation Center Steering Committee to work with town staff, trustees, and the Parks & Recreation Commission on the design and planning of the future Recreation Center. The steering committee will be involved with all aspects of the design, including developing activity spaces, selecting furnishings, construction materials, and determining site location. Carbondale Chamber holds quarterly meetingDavid Birzon will be the featured speaker at the quarterly luncheon of the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce. Birzon is the vice president of operations at Paradise Bakery. In addition, there will be a presentation to Ron Leach, Fire Chief, Carbondale Rural Fire District of $1,200 in donations from chamber members and the community to help pay for shuttle buses that ran during the week of the Colorado Wildfire Academy. The meeting will be from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Thursday at Mambo Italiano Restaurant, 1054 Highway 133 (near Mr. C’s Liquors). The cost is $15 per person.
