I-70 Traffic alert
Westbound traffic on Interstate 70 one mile east of New Castle will be reduced to one lane on Sunday, Oct. 26, for work on bridge expansion joints. Paving continues on eastbound lanes beginning at 8 a.m. and continues between Silt and Canyon Creek with single-lane traffic and speeds reduced to 45 mph, Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. through October.
Money management seminar

The public is invited to share their vision of Carbondale’s parks, recreation and trails from 7-9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, at town hall. Maroon Creek bridge repaired
Repair work on the Maroon Creek Bridge is complete. The temporary bearing seat has been placed and the bridge is open to all traffic, including heavier loads. Bridge crews will continue to monitor the bridge and will install the permanent bearing seat within several months.
Chamber offering grants
The Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association is now accepting applications for a total of $7,500 in grants for special events promotion in Glenwood Springs in 2004. The grant money is derived from tourism marketing funds generated by the city of Glenwood Springs accommodations tax, which is intended to promote Glenwood Springs as a resort destination. The grants are awarded based on: event quality, media appeal and tourism, long-range and additional sponsorship potential. Funding will be split between all applicants that meet the criteria, but funding is not guaranteed. Grant applications are due Nov. 15 for events in 2004 with notification by Dec. 1. The Carbondale Business Development Conference 2003, “The Economics of a Successful Business,” is from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.. Friday, Nov. 7, at town hall in Carbondale. In honor of Bob Chaffin, a marble bench will be dedicated by the Advocate Safehouse Project at noon Friday, Nov. 14, on the south side of the Garfield County Courthouse. Bob Chaffin was a very special man who dedicated himself to many non-profit organizations and to his community throughout his lifetime.
