Basalt summer reading program offers country hoedown
The Basalt Regional Library invites children to “Blaze a Trail to Your Library” with its summer reading programs, including a country hoedown from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 5, in Lion’s Park next to the library. Children from toddlers through eighth-grade are welcome. Information: 927-4311.
Mommy & Me at Glenwood Community Center
The Glenwood Springs Community Center will offer Mommy & Me for infants and toddlers, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesdays, June 8 and 22. Fee is $8 per month for residents, $10 per month for nonresidents. Child care is available. Register: 384-6300.

The Roaring Fork branch of the American Red Cross is holding a bake-sale fund-raiser from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 12, at True Value, 1525 Grand Ave. in Glenwood Springs and 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 12, at the West Glenwood Springs Mall.
Taste of Carbondale June 12
The Carbondale Community Chamber of Commerce will present the Taste of Carbondale and Western Barn Dance with music by Rodeo Cool at the Colorado Rocky Mountain School barn on Saturday, June 12. The event will feature a tasting and silent auction from 6-8:30 p.m., the Carbondale Man and Woman of the Year awards at 8 p.m. and a dance from 8:30-10:30 p.m. The tasting, auction and dance cost $40 per chamber member and $50 per nonmember. The cost of the dance only is $15 per member and $20 per nonmember. Tickets are available at Sounds Easy Video or the chamber office, 963-1890.
ASPEN ART MUSEUM OFFERS ART CAMPS FOR CHILDREN
The Aspen Art Museum is taking registration for its summer art camps for children, including the Victorian Art Camp (June 14-18); Outside Art: Painting and Sketching Aspen (June 14-18); Animals and Art (June 21-25); Multi-Scale Drawing (June 21-25); Enchanted Forest (June 21-25); and Musicians and Artists (June 28-July 2). New this summer is art camps for children in Carbondale – Adventures in Art with Ami Maes, which includes three sessions at Carbondale Middle School. Advance registration is required. School starts August 31!
Roaring Fork School District officials remind parents who may be planning summer vacations that public schools will start Tuesday, Aug. 31 – one week earlier – due in part to a late Labor Day weekend and the need to end the calendar on June 1. Also, STAR Summer School will take place in all the elementary and middle schools as well at Glenwood Springs and Roaring Fork high schools from 9 a.m. to noon Mondays through Thursdays June 14 through July 22.
