Basalt Emergency Management Committee seeks new memberThe Basalt Emergency Management Committee is seeking a volunteer from Basalt to serve a two-year term. The committee meets at 9 a.m. the first Friday of every month at Basalt Town Hall, and all meetings are open to the public. The committee works in cooperation with the public safety councils in Pitkin, Eagle and Garfield counties, using an incident command system in the event of emergencies. Glenwood Springs Art Guild to meet on June 8The Glenwood Springs Art Guild will hold its monthly meeting on at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1630 Grand Ave. in Glenwood Springs. Kathleen Rachek will demonstrate the technique for fresco painting. Meetings are open to the public and include refreshments. A short business meeting will follow the demonstration. Also, paint day will be at Centennial Park, beginning at 9:30 a.m. June 17.MG rally hits Glenwood June 11-13The MG Car Club, Rocky Mountain Centre, will hold its 52nd annual Rallye Glenwood Springs on Friday through Sunday, June 11-13. This is the oldest continuous rally in the United States, featuring 250 people with more than 130 cars. Lutheran church youth group yard saleEmmanuel Lutheran Church’s youth group will hold its annual congregational yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 11-12, inside 652 E. 5th St. in Rifle. Luggage, lamps, appliances, dishes, clothing, barbecue grills, exercise equipment and more will be on sale, and lunch will be available both days. Proceeds will benefit the high school youth’s trip to the National Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod Youth Gathering in Florida in July. Strawberry Days June 18-20Strawberry Days, June 18-20, will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Glenwood Springs Train Depot, with music, a parade down Grand Avenue, an artisans fair, top-notch family entertainment, and free strawberries and ice cream.Burning Mountain Festival seeking runners, bed racers, crafters, volunteersRegistration is under way for Burning Mountain Festival events, July 16-18, ranging from a revived Hogback Hustle 5K to the traditional Miss Burning Mountain Pageant and the Irene Frigge Memorial Bed Race. Girls 6-18 years old who attend schools or reside in New Castle can register for the annual Burning Mountain Pageant until June 10. Information: Karen, 984-3625.
