On behalf of the United Way of Garfield County, I’d like to thank our wonderful sponsors and the entire community for their outstanding support of Skier Appreciation Day. Hundreds of skiers enjoyed the great conditions and $10 lift tickets. The event raised over $6,300 for 20 health and human service agencies throughout the county. That’s almost twice the amount raised last year.

A big thank-you goes to event sponsors Lafarge Corp., EnCana, the Glenwood Springs Post Independent, KSPN, and of course Tom Jankovsky and his enthusiastic staff at Sunlight Mountain Resort. As usual, Turi Nevin-Turkel did a superb job on event coordination. As an example of their generosity and overall support of our community, Phil Long and the staff at Lafarge have committed themselves to this event for over 20 years ” and brought on a new sponsor, EnCana, this year.

Without the employees and businesses like Sunlight Mountain Resort, many people in our community would be in need. If you have the chance, please thank Sunlight and all the Skier Appreciation sponsors personally for their generosity.
