Readers say thanks

Two of the historic buildings in the Silt Historical Park have just been re-roofed. The purpose of this letter is to thank those who made this possible.A very big thank you goes out to each of the following: The Aspen Valley Community Foundation for their very generous grant in the amount of $5,000. Mullenax Construction and Roofing, which did the work in a very timely and professional manner while generously donating almost $4,000 in labor towards the project, as well as repairing two other roofs while they were at it. Valley Lumber, and Fowler and Peth Inc., both of Rifle, for providing the necessary materials at a greatly reduced cost. The town of Silt for a free building permit, and the towns building inspector, who donated his inspection fee. Thank you each and every one so very much.Alice BoultonExecutive DirectorSilt Historical ParkSilt

The Advocate Safehouse Project Board of Directors, staff and clients would like to extend our deepest appreciation to our communities, Weststar Bank and the Ewbank-Aronson Charitable Trust for their support of the Gift of Hope campaign. Because of you, we raised over $20,000! Thank you! Also, there were many individuals, families and businesses who sponsored our clients with Christmas baskets this holiday season. Thank you! You truly made the difference for these families. Thinking of domestic violence and sexual assault during the holiday season can be difficult, but this truly can be a dangerous time for many families. While violence may not be present in your home, it may be in the life of someone you care about a family member, a neighbor or a friend. You, our community, made this holiday season a very special time to remember with your caring and sharing.Because of community members like you, Weststar Bank and the Ewbank-Aronson Charitable Trust, working with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault is made a bit easier. Thank you for Caring & Sharing with the Advocate Safehouse Project and our clients! Your support is deeply appreciated!Warmly, Julie Olson, directorThe Advocate Safehouse Project Glenwood Springs

My name is Sgt. Shauna Plotz (those who are still around will remember me as Shauna Fonaas), and I am currently serving in Mosul, Iraq, with the 101st Airborne Division. I grew up in Glenwood Springs and graduated from Glenwood Springs High School in 1999 and have been in the Army since. My unit has been here since last February, so we were all lucky to spend the holidays here in Iraq. I would just like to thank the members of Alpine Bank Accounting Department for their generosity this past holiday season with the goodie boxes they sent us and for helping to give myself and those I serve with a happy holiday season. It truly made our holidays brighter amidst a time of longing for our loved ones back home, and we all greatly appreciate it. Sincerely,SGT Shauna Plotz 101st Airborne DivisionMosul, Iraq

On a recent business trip to the Western Slope, I had some major car trouble. I was able to limp into Glenwood Springs, and feel very fortunate and relieved that I was treated with honesty and integrity by John at the Amoco station and everyone at Riverside Imports. John actually drove my car to Riverside Imports because my car had a problem which he could not fix, and I was busy in Carbondale.I would also like to thank all my friends in the insurance world in the Glenwood area whose generous offers of couch space and beer I did not end up needing. Not knowing when Id be able to get home was pretty stressful, but my situation was so much better due to the kindness of strangers and friends alike.Joel RosenblumBoulder
