Readers Say Thanks
It is with great pride that I take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank the sponsors, volunteers and participants of the 27th annual Strawberry Shortcut. This yearly event brings the community together for an enjoyable, sociable and active morning that benefits Glenwood Springs Special Olympics.
The Shortcut, presented by the Bank of Colorado, allows our athletes to be outfitted in proper sports attire and travel to other area and state competitions. It also gives us the opportunity to purchase updated sports equipment, host a summer invitational of bocce ball, golf, tennis and cycling to all athletes of the Western Area, and finally the funds provide Special Olympians the opportunity to learn athletic skills which become life skills.
Thanks to the following businesses for their continuing sponsorships: Bank of Colorado, HP Geotech, American Furniture Warehouse, Grand Farnum Printing, Glenwood Springs Ford, Somethin’ Sweet Candy Plus! There’s Only One Geno’s, Rocky Mountain Realtors Inc., Commonwealth Title Co. of Garfield County Inc., Calistoga, Grand River Construction, Toy Shack, SDS Mortgage Corp., Downtown Glenwood Springs and Glenwood Chiropractic. Also thanks to the Glenwood Post Independent for its pre-race coverage and race-day coverage, as well as the Kappa Theta sorority for preparing the pasta picnic, the Glenwood Springs Police Department and Valley Wide Portables. Special thanks to Jim Yellico, our race director. His excellent skills in coordinating, planning and executing the Shortcut ensure a great time for all involved. Also, thanks to the wonderful volunteers and participants: We couldn’t do it without you!
Thank you, Glenwood,
