The Mount Sopris Historical Society thanks everyone who helped make the ice cream social happen last weekend at the Blues and BBQ festival in Carbondale. Thanks to KDNK for inviting us to be a part of this terrific event; the Red Rock Diner for the ice cream; Peppinos for their Rick Diggity Root Beer; the Village Smithy for coffee; Main Street Liquors; PostNet; Caf Ol and Dos Gringos, Big Mamas Home Cookin; the Near New Thrift Shop; Ace Hardware; the Pour House; Carbondale Community United Methodist Church; and Gordon Cooper Library. When it comes to volunteerism and fund-raising, the spirit of Carbondale is something to behold. We would like to extend a big thank-you to all attendees, volunteers and local businesses that made the 51st annual Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast a huge success on Aug. 6.We served 1,007 meals at this major fund-raiser for the Glenwood Springs Kiwanis evening club. Funds raised will once again be used for youth scholarships and other community projects.A special thank-you goes to the three major sponsors. Village Inn provided the pancake batter. McDonalds donated orange juice and cups, and True Brew Coffee Service served the coffee.Thanks also to our 32 table sponsors.
