This past weekend, I was fortunate enough to participate in the 24 Hours of Sunlight Inaugural event. This event raised money for the Heuga Center for Multiple Sclerosis. I participated with four other friends, in the five-person open class. Together we encouraged and supported each other throughout the day, into a very cold, moonlit night and on into a welcome beautiful morning. Throughout the 24-hour experience we had together, we not only learned what we as individuals could endure physically and mentally, but we shared a unique experience of teamwork and friendship that will be a memory we will always cherish. We were able to have this fantastic experience due to the generosity of the Post Independent newspaper. On behalf of the winning G(A)SPI team, I would like to thank the Post Independent for their sponsorship. Without their help, we would not have been able to participate in this exciting event, raising money for an important cause. The event was well organized and presented. This was due to the many efforts of the employees of various companies, as well as many local volunteers. Our thanks go out to all of them as well.Heidi VosbeckGlenwood Springs

On the evening of Feb. 6, 2006 at the Hotel Colorado, the air was filled with “Catching People Doing Something Good.” It was a gathering of nominees whose passion is the good of others. What a positive, refreshing and humbling event.I want to express my deep and personal gratitude in being chosen as Garfield County Humanitarian of 2005.When Mother Teresa of Calcutta was bestowed with an honor, she said that the recognition was not only for herself, but for all who were a part of her. This recognition occurred only because of the support and love of my husband, Ken, son, Patrick, my church family at St. Stephen’s, the staff and clients at Mr. Valley Developmental Services, the staff and peers at Farnum Holt, Colorado West, Defiance Community Theater and my cherished friends. The cards, calls, flowers and wishes are appreciated so much.Thank you for all of your work and energy in sponsoring this very worthwhile celebration.Marti DupreyGlenwood Springs
