Readers Say Thanks

On April 11, 2009, our lives changed forever when our dear family member passed away. Christine Diaz was our sister, our aunt and our friend.

For 10 months, she battled cancer with grace and dignity. Christine was discovered very early in the morning in a praying position. Her crucifixes were pinned to her night shirt and pillow. Clutched in her hand were her rosary beads. There was also a bottle of holy water nearby.

Our family is comforted in knowing that her faith had sustained her through this journey that she has taken.

We would like to thank Dr. Duane Hartshorn and his staff and Dr. Vernon King and his staff at St. Mary’s Hospital. We cannot thank these two doctors enough for everything they did to help our “Tina.”

We would also like to thank Garfield County sheriff’s deputies Smokey Torres and Marco Renteria for their kindness and professionalism. To deputy coroner Thomas Walton, thank you for the respect and gentle manner in which you cared for Tina.

Jeannine Artaz, thank you for treating us as if we were your own family. Thank you to Ted Churchill and his staff at Village Inn restaurant who went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of. You all made a very difficult morning more bearable. To everyone who passed along their prayers, condolences, cards, phone calls and provided food, thank you.

We would also like to send a very special thank you to St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. Thank you to Father Cliff McMillan and Deacon Vic Kimminau, who officiated a beautiful funeral mass.

Jessica Diaz and the family of Christine Diaz
