The first local screening of The Last Ridge, a PBS documentary by 10th Mountain descendant Abbie Kealy, will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the Wheeler Opera House in Aspen.

The Aspen Historical Society has partnered with volunteers of the Roaring Fork Veterans History Project to create this special fundraising event to benefit the continued recording of veterans’ oral histories. It will feature local oral histories and a discussion with the filmmaker.

A lobby reception with 10th Mtn. Hut display, vintage ski memorabilia and photo opportunities will be held following the fundraiser. The event is free to the public, but contributions are encouraged. Sponsorship information is available by calling Kip Hubbard at 925-3721.



Colorado Mountain College is celebrating its newest facility, the West Garfield Campus, EnCana Academic Center, with a free grand opening reception from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 1, at the campus located at 3695 Airport Road, near the Garfield County Airport in south Rifle.

Local choirs from Coal Ridge High School, Rifle High School and Grand Valley High School will perform throughout the morning. Tours of the campus and continental breakfast will also be offered.

The Roaring Fork Chapter of the Colorado Archaeology Society will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, at the First Presbyterian Church, 1016 Cooper Ave. in Glenwood Springs. The program will includes a video entitled, “More Than Bows and Arrows,” describing Native American technologies such as Hohokam Canals and mounds. The public is invited to attend.
