GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado ” Alida Eide and Dara Chase are ready to show the world their fundraising skills.

The Glenwood Springs Middle School eighth-graders have raised more than $6,000 for Operation Vacation, a program that benefits soldiers who have served overseas.

Eide and Chase have constructed a chain of donated $1 bills that stretches the length of a football field. An unveiling takes place from 4-6 p.m. today at the Glenwood Springs High School football field.

Thirty-two students and veterans will hold $200 lengths of the chain during the event.

Additional donations are being accepted through May 23, and all money collected will be presented to Operation Vacation founder Bob Johnson at the Colorado Yagatta Regatta rafting flotilla between 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, at Two Rivers Park (the event takes place from noon to 9 p.m.).
