Town council honors armed forces during meetings

New Castle Town Council is stepping up their appreciation of citizens by recognizing local individuals serving in the U.S. armed forces at a special time during Town Council meetings. Mayor Bill Wentzel recognizes nominated individuals in attendance and presents a certificate extending the community’s appreciation for service to the country. This practice will continue as long as U.S. armed forces are deployed in conflicts. Nominations can be submitted by family or friends to town administrator Steve Rippy.The New Castle Police Department is available to do free vacation security checks of town residences or businesses when owners are out of town. Stop by the police department at Town Hall to fill out a form, and feel safer while you are away.New Castle’s newest retailer, The Picket Fence, was closed for a week during the holidays, but will re-open at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 3, with 50 percent off all Christmas decorations and ornaments. Owner Judy Gordon will have other clearance items as well. She’s looking forward to offering exciting new inventory, including Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day and Easter items. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation during November’s “Exercise with a Purpose” fund-raiser for breast cancer.”We had a great time working for a great cause,” said New Castle Family Fitness Personal Trainer Jennifer Harbottle. “It was our pleasure to participate in this fund-raiser to fight breast cancer.”The Fitness Center reminds everyone to start the New Year off right by getting fit. Cathy and the Fitness Center’s great personal training staff are offering a boxing class called “TKO” starting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12. The facility has added seven new pieces of strength and cardio equipment in the last year.
