Valley View Hospital rates healthy applause

Congratulations to Valley View Hospital for earning a place among the nation’s top 100 hospitals. It is a feather in the cap of Glenwood Springs to have a small community hospital that acts like a regional center. Valley View received the honor from Solucient, an Evanston, Ill.-based health-care information company that rates hospitals across the country for clinical, financial and operating efficiency. Solucient looks at things such as patient mortality, average length of stay, operating profit margins and per-patient expenses. While Valley View has won awards for financial management, this is the first time it has received recognition for its clinical practices. As part of the top 100, Valley View is among the top 1 percent of the 6,000 hospitals nationwide. In addition, Valley View was the only Colorado hospital in its size category (up to 99 beds) to make the Top 100. Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins was also in the top 100, in the category of 200 or more beds.Valley View provides quality patient care that usually would not be available in a rural community this size. It is also a strong attraction for people wanting to move here. People looking to relocate make their choices based on location, environment, quality of life and medical facilities – not just a job or career.Valley View also won its place among the top 100 hospitals in America before it began its ambitious development plan. When complete, the new addition will more than double the size of the current building. With it will come larger hospital departments and more state-of-the-art services. We’re very fortunate to have a hospital of the caliber of Valley View here in Glenwood Springs. We applaud Valley View’s richly deserved honor. We’re very fortunate to have a hospital of the caliber of Valley View here in Glenwood Springs. We applaud Valley View’s richly deserved honor.
