A team caps off undefeated weekend
Taking on the West Elk PeeWee A team Saturday and Sunday, the Glenwood Grizzlies PeeWee A team defeated the Wolverines in three straight games by the score of 4-2, 5-3 and 3-1 to cap off an undefeated weekend of hockey.
With the three wins over West Elk, the Grizzlies improve to 8-5-3 (23 points), good for a third-place tie in the current standings.
In game one against West Elk, Grizzly forward Anthony Guy scored an even-strength goal at the 2:12 mark in the first period to knot the game at one off of an assist from Cody Roberts.
Kobe Ottosen added an early second-period goal on the power play and Owen Mangeot netted an even-strength goal just over two minutes later off of assists from Guy and Roberts to stretch the Grizzly lead to 3-1 after two periods of play.
Roberts then capped off the scoring for Glenwood with an even-strength goal just 51 seconds into the final period off of assists from Guy and Ottosen. Roberts and Guy finished with three points in the win, while Grizzly netminder Owen McConaughy stopped 21 of 23 shots, backstopping Glenwood to victory.
Game two against West Elk went much like game one as the Grizzlies scored three second-period goals to take a 3-1 lead after two periods of play.
Cooper Luetke, Guy and Ottosen netted goals in the second period off of assists from Nolan McPherson, Roberts, Ottosen and Guy, respectively.
Ottosen and McPherson scored in the third period to seal the win for Glenwood as Roberts picked up two assists in the third period.
Ottosen led the Grizzlies with four points, while Roberts added three points for the second straight game.
McPherson and Guy picked up two points for Glenwood as McConaughy stopped 15 of 18 shots in the win.
The Grizzlies capped off the undefeated weekend by topping the Wolverines 3-1, Sunday, as Guy, McPherson and Ottosen potted goals for the Grizzlies, while McConaughy made saves on 21 of 22 shots for Glenwood.
As the PeeWee A team turned in a strong weekend against West Elk PeeWee A,
The Grizzly Bantam B team one-upped the PeeWee A team by running roughshod on the West Elk Bantam B by picking up three wins, 4-1, 5-0 and 6-1, Saturday and Sunday.
In game one, Kai Kanzer and Cole Hawkinson paced the Grizzlies to an early 2-0 lead after one period of play. Jacob Fowler picked up the lone assist on Kanzer’s goal.
The two teams remained scoreless in the second period before Dylan Webster found the back of the net twice in the third period to cap off the scoring for Glenwood.
Hunter Lohse and Robbie Weir picked up assists on Webster’s first goal.
Grizzly netminder Hunter Hadsock stopped 23 of 24 shots in the 4-1 win.
Webster found the back of the net twice for the second straight game, Sunday, while Hawkinson, Kanzer and Weir netted goals as well in the 5-0 win.
The Grizzlies dominated throughout, outshooting the Wolverines 33-12. Glenwood made it easy for Hadsock, who was asked to make just 12 saves.
In game three against West Elk, Webster continued his reign of terror over the Wolverines, netting a hat trick in the Grizzlies’ 6-1 win.
Weir, Thomas Bensch and Dylan Uren each tallied one goal as well for Glenwood.
Unfortunately for the Grizzlies, the Squirt B and C teams went a combined 0-5 over the weekend, while the PeeWee B team went 2-2 against Telluride and West Elk.
