Apple Tree cancels fireworks due to high fire danger

Staff Report

Due to the extreme environmental conditions, and upon consultation with Colorado River Fire Rescue, the management team at the Apple Tree community south of New Castle has decided to cancel the aerial fireworks display associated with their annual Freedom Celebration on July 4.

In lieu of the fireworks, a movie, “The Ride,” will be shown in the park.

All other activities associated with the event will continue, with the kids carnival and water activities starting after the flag raising at noon and stage entertainment starting at 5:30 p.m. with the Western Slope Stompers, at 6:30 p.m. the New Hope Band, 7:30 p.m. Sandra Dee and 8:30 p.m. the Smuggle Mountain Boys. The movie will begin around 9:30 p.m.

The Apple Tree community has hosted the Freedom Celebration for 37 years and this is only the third time the aerial fireworks display has been cancelled.
