What’s New?

• Grand Valley High School will host a mandatory meeting for parents of student athletes who will play sports this fall at 7 p.m. today in Cardinal Hall at the high school.

• Rifle High School has a new girls basketball coach. Kristy Wallner, who played Division I college basketball at Xavier, took over the program in the summer. She replaced Rick Schmitz, the longtime Rifle and Coal Ridge coach, who resigned at the end of the school year.

• Grand Valley’s sports teams will be busy with exhibitions on Saturday. The football team will host a scrimmage at 8 a.m. Saturday, and boys soccer team will play scrimmages at Gates Soccer Park in Glenwood Springs. The Grand Valley volleyball team will scrimmage at Glenwood Springs and will be ready to play at 9 a.m. Saturday.

By the Numbers

1 — Place by the Rifle boys golf team at the Rifle Invitational golf tournament at Rifle Creek Golf Course on Aug. 15.

20 — Number of consecutive regular-season football games Rifle has won going into the 2013 season.

92 — Top boys golf score for Grand Valley at the Rifle Invitational, which was carded by junior J.T. Kellebrew.
