Local painter and mixed-media artist Sara Gallagher is hosting a workshop on “organic mixed media” at this month’s Art After Hours hosted by the Bookcliffs Arts Center April 23.

Gallagher uses branches, rocks, leaves and even some moss to create organic artwork, and she encourages people to attend and create something they can take home.

Participants will learn techniques such as “painting without paint” and “seeing beyond an object.”

The event runs from 6 – 8 p.m. Admission is $25 for Bookcliffs Arts Center members and $30 for nonmembers. Material will be provided and an open mind is encouraged, according to a press release.

With various routes to take this organic piece, one may choose to keep it purely aesthetic, create a lovely sign or make it delightfully useful via hooks for keys, necklaces or other small hangable objects, Gallagher said.

Contact Gallagher to register or for more information at 707-567-1314.
