Meet & Greet Library Executive Director Candidates

The Garfield County Libraries invite members of the public to welcome the three finalists for the executive director position during a meet and greet to be held at the New Castle Branch Library from 5-6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4. End of life presentation



The Yes on Colorado End-of-Life Options campaign invites the public to attend a presentation by Dr. Charles Hamlin of Denver: “Mortality, Morality and Honor: The End-Of-Life Paradigm.” The presentation will take place at the Rifle Hampton Inn & Suites, 499 Airport Road, Thursday, Aug. 4, from 6-7:30 p.m.

Dr. Hamlin’s presentation will visit society’s attitudes toward death and dying, and with philosophy, humor, a little data but no dogma, he will attempt to define how culture, law, religion and medicine interact to shape the landscape of the last chapter.



Movies under the stars

The annual “movies under the stars” will conclude at the Grand Valley Recreation Center, located at 398 Arroyo Drive in Battlement Mesa, on Aug. 12. The series will be screening “Zootopia” and the Grand Valley United Methodist Church will be giving away free hot dogs and soda

Family Movie Night

The New Castle Chamber and town of New Castle are sponsoring Family Movie Night at Elk Creek Elementary in New Castle. “The Goonies” will be shown on Aug. 4 and “Cars” on Sept. 1. There will be games at 8 p.m. followed by the movie at 8:30 p.m. Bring a chair. Concessions will be available.

Tour De Farms bicycle ride

Mount Sopris Conservation District is hosting the Tour De Farms again this year in the New Castle/Silt area on Saturday, Aug. 13. Tour De Farms is a 21-mile bike ride that highlights what is unique, healthy and homegrown in our valley. The tour stops at Open Heart Ranch- multi-generational ranch, Peach Valley CSA farm and Blancos’ small acreage winery. The ride finishes at the Black Dog Saloon in New Castle with burgers, beer and live music by Jeremy Isenhart. The $25 registration includes the fully supported ride, tour stops, lunch with beer glass and live music.
