The community got its first glimpse at the Colorado Mountain College Downtown Rifle Academic Center during an open house Thursday, Aug. 27.

At the new center, located at 229 West Ave., students can register for any CMC classes, including those at the main Rifle campus on Airport Road This fall students can take English as a Second Language program and GED classes downtown. Additional classes are expected to be added in the spring.

As for the turnout, the college could not have been more pleased, said Rachel Pokrandt, CMC Rifle campus dean.

While it was not planned, so many people at the event asked if they could register for classes that staff had to hunt down registration forms and pens to start signing people up. Among those was Julieta Gonzalez, who excitedly answered “yes” when asked if she was signing up for classes.
