I-70 traffic delays near Parachute
One lane of eastbound traffic on I-70 near Parachute was scheduled to be closed from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, and Friday, Oct. 18, so water that collected in the median during recent thunderstorms could be pumped out, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
Maintenance crews were to pump the flood-created ponds from the median between I-70 east- and westbound lanes west of Parachute, between mile markers 68.5 and 69.5. The heavy rainfall in September sent water, mud and debris across westbound lanes, where it settled and left two ponds. Recent wet weather prevented the ponds from drying out.
The work will require the closure of one lane and the speed limit through the area was to be reduced to 40 mph. Motorists can experience periodic full stops in both eastbound lanes while equipment is moved.
