Lowell J. Torkelson

Lowell Jerome Torkelson, known to everyone as “Tork,” went to be with the Lord on February 13, 2015.

Born July 15, 1928 in Edmore, ND, the third of nine children. Tork attended Dakota Business College and later studied American law and procedure through LaSalle Extension University.

In 1948 Tork married Barbara Twaddle with three children born of that union. He worked for Union Oil from 1955 to 1986 in Great Falls, Seattle and Parachute. He was the community affairs director for Union’s oil shale project in Parachute and seemingly involved with everyone and everything while in Garfield County.

After retirement, Tork returned to Colorado and married Elree Creswell in Ouray. Elree and Tork resided in Parachute where Tork wrote for the weekly newspaper, eventually becoming its editor-in-chief. He left to become the ED of the newly formed Garfield County Economic Development Group until 1990 when he and Elree moved to Walla Walla, WA to be nearer children and grandchildren. In 2008, they moved to Bella Vista, AR, again to be near family.

Tork was long interested in politics and served as a delegate to several national conventions. An avid golfer, he enjoyed playing the game wherever he lived and traveled.
