Kum & Go opened a new 5,000-square-foot convenience store at 365 S. Seventh St. in Rifle on Friday, Nov. 8.

The store, on the south side of the I-70/Airport Road roundabouts, is more than twice the size of the old one, which was razed to make way for the larger building. Demolition of the Rusty Canon Motel, just south of the old store, began on March 6. Hudspeth & Associates was the general contractor.

The new store offers made-to-order pizzas, baked goods and breakfast and deli sandwiches, prepared daily in an on-site kitchen.

Outside, the new store sells regular, diesel and E-85 gasoline, that later two of which were not available previously at this location. Kum & Go has four stores in Rifle and 51 stores throughout Colorado.

Kum & Go stores save energy and water through a commitment to sustainable practices. New stores, including this one, are designed, constructed and submitted for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification. Kum & Go currently has 66 LEED-certified stores, with 14 more under construction – the most of any convenience retailer in the nation.

Each year, Kum & Go shares 10 percent of its profits with charitable causes in the communities it serves. This year in Colorado, Kum & Go has donated $30,000 to the American Red Cross for flood relief efforts and to help people affected by wildfires. The money came from in-store donations from customers and donations from the company.
