It’s official: there are three new members on the Garfield Re-2 Board of Education.

The three members elected earlier this month — Jacquelyn Johnson, Jay Rickstrew and Tara Rumery — were sworn in during a special meeting at the district office in Rifle Monday.

Following the swearing in, the board elected Anne Guettler as board president and Rickstrew, a former board president with eight years on the Re-2 board, as vice president.

Board member Shirley Parks was elected secretary and Rumery, the only newly elected board member to face a challenger in the recent election, was elected treasurer.

The meeting was the last for Chris Pearson, outgoing board president, and fellow board members Scott Doherty and Patrick Burwell. Pearson and Doherty leave having served two four-year terms each on the board — the maximum amount of consecutive terms allowed under term limit restrictions — while Burwell, who was not present Monday, served one four-year term.

The new board will continue the work already underway on a number of issues, including the search for a new superintendent. The district, which is working with the Colorado Association of School Boards (CASB) on the search, hopes to finalize a brochure for the position by the start of the CASB winter conference next week.

The first regularly-scheduled meeting with the new board is slated for Dec. 8.
