Dana Wood, executive director of LiveWell Garfield County, presented awards to the top three classrooms at Bea Underwood Elementary in Battlement Mesa during a Thursday, May 22, ceremony for the 2014 Garfield Clean Energy Bike & Walk to School Challenge. Wood also told students about the value of exercise and healthy eating. The school won first place in the April 15-17 county-wide competition. The 294 Bea Underwood students saved $3,500 in gasoline, 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions and burned 21,000 calories. The school won $1,000 for its efforts.
