Students at five of the six Garfield School District Re-2 elementary schools from Rifle to New Castle used their off-day to gather with friends, family, teachers and others in local parks and opened books.

The “Reading in the Park” hour-long gatherings on Friday, April 25, was an extension of Highland Elementary School’s fall Reading in the Park event.

Elementary schools involved included Highland and Wamsley in Rifle, Cactus Valley in Silt and Elk Creek and Kathryn Senor in New Castle.
