Real Estate Roundup: ‘A Year of Fun’ helps local high school graduates in Rifle, Parachute and elsewhere in Garfield County
Real Estate Roundup
A great community comprises great people. Today, with all of the turmoil in the real estate market and in everyone’s day-to-day lives, it is such a wonderful feeling to work and live in a valley that is willing to give so much back to others.
This column isn’t so much about the real estate market, but about the amazing brokers and affiliates who contribute so much of their extra time and energy behind the scenes, helping our friends and neighbors.
Each year our realtor and affiliate members raise funds through events to provide scholarships to our graduating seniors from all seven high schools in Garfield County: Roaring Fork and Bridges in Carbondale, Glenwood Springs and Yampah Mountain in Glenwood Springs, Coal Ridge in New Castle, Rifle, and Grand Valley in Parachute. The total amount awarded each year depends on what our committee is able to raise. This committee works diligently throughout the year in order to provide awards to much-deserving students.
The realtors have been providing scholarships for the past 16 years, and, to date, we have helped 117 graduating seniors. This committee is all volunteers, but is the same dedicated brokers and businesses that help you through the home buying process.
I have been very fortunate to serve on this committee for the past several years. Let me tell you about our exciting event this year. Our committee chair is Sherry Rubin, and I cannot express my gratitude for the immense amount of work she has put into this fundraiser and to the committee members that donated their time to make this one of our biggest success stories yet. The fundraiser this year is called “A Year Full of Fun.” We were delighted to have donations from businesses up and down the valley, individuals and even friends and family.
“A Year Full of Fun” comprises 12 months, naturally. Each month has a package that is worth $750 or more. On Aug. 14, at our annual membership luncheon, we determined the lucky winners of each individual month. This event created so much excitement, and we are so very thankful to each and every broker and affiliate that helped us make this such a huge success. Our final total for the event has not yet been determined, but we do know it is a tremendous amount. Next time you see your favorite realtor, please stop them and say “thank you” and know that they do so much to help others. We are truly grateful that we have had the opportunity to help so many local high school graduates as they pursue their dreams through higher education.
Thanks again to everyone that made this year such a great success for everyone involved.
