GOLF

Community Park fundraising tourney

The third-annual Community Classic Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Battlement Mesa Golf Course.



The tournament is an annual event to raise funds to help the Parachute/Battlement Mesa Park and Recreation District in the construction of the proposed Community Park.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. the day of the tournament, which starts at 10 a.m. The tournament is seeking sponsors, including team, hole, event and prize sponsors.



Cost per team is $300 and $75 per individual. All entry fees are tax-deductible. Space is limited.

RECREATION

Flag football

The Rifle Parks and Recreation Department is organizing a flag football league for all children in 3rd and 4th grades.

The format is non-contact, 5-on-5 play, with the focus on skill development, fitness and fun. This program includes one to two practices per week, with possible games against teams from New Castle, Parachute, Meeker, Glenwood Springs and other teams from Rifle.

Mouth guards are mandatory. Registration is $20 per player, deadline is Aug. 30.

Volleyball

Volleyball programs for both youths and adults will be offered by New Castle Recreation this fall.

An “Introduction to Volleyball” program is offered for boys and girls in third and fourth grades that includes weekly practices and scrimmage matches on Tuesday evenings. The fee is $40 before Sept. 3 and includes a T-shirt.

The volleyball league for children in grades five and six has one to two practices a week and scheduled matches. The league fee is $60 before Sept. 3 and includes a T-shirt.

The adult mixed quads league is self-officiated for both recreational and competitive teams. Teams are required to have at least one female on the court at all times. League play will be on Tuesday evenings, beginning in early September, through October. Fees are $120 per team or $30 per person.
