Rifle Bears headline list of 3A football All-Conference members
Capping off a year in which it went 9-2, finished second overall in the 3A Western Slope League and made an appearance in the Colorado state playoffs, the Rifle Bears football team saw six members of the team named to the 3A first team All-Conference.
Joe Kosht, Gage Johnston, Ethan Strouse, Ty Leyba, Blaine Vance and Tyler Bosshardt were named to the 3A Western Slope first team All-Conference.
Leyba, Vance and Bosshardt were the three members of the Bears’ backfield that rolled up more than 3,000 rushing yards this past season. Vance and Bosshardt each rushed for more than 1,000 yards.
Bosshardt was also named the Running Back of the Year in 3A, while Kosht was named Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year.
Kosht and Johnston opened up huge holes all season long for the backfield trio while Strouse piloted the Bears’ offense to tons of success this season as the offensive unit averaged just under 40 points per game.
Along with the first team All-Conference members, Drake Montgomery, Connor Gould, Alex Cordova, Carlos Ochoa, Riley Gray, Cam Shepherd, Takoda Chaney and Colton Bumgardner were listed as Honorable Mention members of the 3A Western Slope League.
Outside of Rifle, Glenwood Springs’ Matt Osier was named a first team All-Conference member, while Jake and Matt Townsley and Nick Lippman were named as Honorable Mention members for the Demons, who had a rough year due to injuries and young players that were getting their feet wet.
Osier, Lippman and the Townsley brothers stuck with it and were rewarded with mentions on the All-Conference team.
