If they needed it, swimmers at Rifle’s Art Dague Pool can feel an added sense of comfort in knowing they have the best lifeguards on the Western Slope — or at least some of the best.

Rifle’s lifeguard team recently tied for first place at the 2016 Western Slope Lifeguard Games. The event is intended to promote professionalism, enhance skills, improve physical fitness and build teamwork in lifeguard staffs through a fun and competitive atmosphere.

The Rifle lifeguards who competed include Kohl Keithley, Dalton Pruett, Makenna Pruett, Cheyanne Whaley and Katelin Lang.

The event, which was hosted at the Moyer Pool in Grand Junction on June 26, featured events such as multi-victim rescues, first aid scenarios, tug of war, rescue tube relay, backboarding scenario, medley relay, treading endurance, resuscitative care scenarios, passive victim response, and ironguard.

Although they tied for first place, the Rifle team demonstrated some strong sportsmanship and conceded the first place prizes to the Montrose team.
