Rifle Police Department and Garfield County Sheriff’s Office Crime Report – July 3, 2014
Editor’s note: The Rifle Police Department and Garfield County Sheriff’s Office reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.
Warrant arrest: Officers made a traffic stop in the 1300 block of Airport Road on June 15 at 4:29 a.m. A passenger, Joadie Griebel, 46, of Rifle, was arrested on an active warrant and taken to jail.
Graffiti: Officers responded to a call of criminal mischief in the 700 block of White River Avenue on June 16 at 9:45 a.m. Property was vandalized with graffiti. The case is under investigation.
Dog bite: On June 16 at 7:07 p.m., police responded to a dog bite report in the 300 block of McCarron Avenue. The owner, Robi Sifers, (34) of Rifle, was issued a citation for no proof of having her dog vaccinated, failure to have it licensed and having a potentially vicious animal.
Harassment: Officers responded to a 911 hang up from a room at the Comfort Inn, 301 S. Seventh St., on June 16 at 7:44 p.m. and found the incident was a domestic disturbance. Michael Scott Mills, 26, of Rifle, was arrested on suspicion of harassment, obstruction of phone services and domestic violence and was taken to jail.
DUI: Officers responded to a REDDI ( Report Every Drunk Driver Immediately) report in the 100 block of East Third Street on June 16 at 9:45 p.m. Bruce Bernard, 56, of Parachute, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, habitual traffic offender and reckless driving. He was taken to jail.
Assault: Police responded to a report of an assault in the 100 block of East Third Street on June 17 at 10:05 a.m. The case is under investigation.
Order violation: Police responded to a report of a restraining order violation in the 2800 block of Railroad Avenue on June 19 at 11:07 a.m. The case is under investigation.
Vandalism: Police took a report of criminal mischief in the 1200 block of East 18th Way on June 19 at 6:54 a.m. A vehicle was vandalized and the case is under investigation.
Warrant arrest: Deputies contacted a man in the 100 block of East First Street in Rifle on June 25 at 12:20 a.m. Lee Jay Cobb, 46, of Rifle, was arrested on an active warrant and taken to jail.
Dog bite: Deputies responded to a complaint of a dog bite on Silver Queen Circle in Battlement Mesa on June 26 at 9:03 a.m. The owner, Alan Eugene Schaeffer, 71, of Battlement Mesa, was to be issued a summons for having a dangerous dog.
Traffic summons: Deputies made a traffic stop in the 1700 block of Railroad Avenue in Rifle on June 26 at 9:27 a.m. Beverly Veronica Queen, 32, of Rifle, was issued a summons for having a fake ID, expired license plate, failure to provide proof of insurance and driving without a valid license.
Criminal mischief: Deputies took a report of criminal mischief on Emerald Lane in Battlement Mesa on June 27 at 11:18 a.m. The case is closed/inactive pending further leads.
DUI: Deputies made a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Railroad Avenue in Rifle on June 29 at 1:40 a.m. Ronald Jay Lusk, 35, of Lochbuie, Colo., was arrested on suspicion of DUI, speeding, driving with a revoked license and careless driving. He was taken to jail.
Brush fire: Deputies, along with Colorado River Fire Rescue and Bureau of Land Management fire crews and Rifle police officers, responded to a brush fire on County Road 248 outside Rifle on June 29 at 2:09 p.m. The incident is currently under investigation.
