Rifle Police Department and Garfield County Sheriff’s Office Crime Report – June 12, 2012
Editor’s note: The Rifle Police Department and Garfield County Sheriff’s Office reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.
Fairgrounds thefts: On May 18 at 5:53 p.m., a male juvenile came to the Rifle Police Department to report a cell phone was stolen from the Garfield County Fairgrounds earlier in the day. The case is under investigation. Later in the day, a juvenile male called the department to report the theft of an IPad from the fairgrounds. Officers tried to get a track on the IPad, but were unsuccessful.
Graffiti: Officers took a report of criminal mischief at the Garfield School District Re-2 Learning Operation center in the 800 block of White River Avenue on May 19 at 10:22 a.m. Somebody painted graffiti on the side of a building and a dumpster enclosure. This case is under investigation.
Theft: On May 20 at 6:15 p.m., a officer took a report of a motor vehicle theft in the 300 block of East Fourth Street. The case is under investigation.
Theft: On May 20 at 10:13 a.m., police were notified of a theft of a portable electronic device from a residence in the 400 block of West Fourth Street.
Theft: On May 20 at 8:58 a.m., police investigated a report of a stolen iPod at Rifle Middle School. A juvenile male was summonsed and released to his parent after returning it and admitting to having taken the iPod.
DUI: Officers made a traffic stop for speeding in the 1700 block of Airport Road on May 20 at 1:21 a.m. Carrie Anna Vinkemeier, 22, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, DUI per se, prohibited use of a weapon and speeding. She was taken to jail.
Warrant arrest: Officers contacted Courtney McGruder, 33, at the police department, 201 E. 18th St., on May 20 at 2:44 p.m. She was found to have an active warrant, was arrested and posted bond.
Traffic arrest: Police contacted a vehicle for an equipment violation in the 400 block of West 24th Street on May 22 at 8:36 p.m. and arrested the driver, Krystal Medrano, 25, of Rifle, on suspicion of driving without a license and no insurance. She was taken to jail.
Cyber harassment: Police took a report of cyber harassment on East Fifth Street on May 23 at 12:19 p.m. The case is under investigation.
Warrant arrest: While investigating an unrelated criminal report on East Fifth Street on May 23 at 12:48 p.m., Brock Timmer, 51, of Rifle, was found to have an outstanding warrant. He was taken to jail.
Burglary: On May 24 at 10:05 a.m., police took a report of a burglary that occurred at the Smoke Shop, 401 Railroad Ave. The case is under investigation.
Accident: On May 24 at 2:41 p.m., police took a report of a hit and run accident that occurred at City Market, 1320 Railroad Ave. The case is under investigation.
Theft: On May 24 at 7:59 p.m., officers took a report of a theft of a trailer from the 700 block of West 24th Street.
Disorderly conduct: Officers arrested Trevor Lindberg, 27, near the Big Kids Bar at Third Street and Railroad Avenue for disorderly conduct on May 24 at 1:10 a.m. He was later released from the Rifle Police Department on a penalty assessment citation.
Order violation: Police responded to a disturbance call on East Third Street on May 24 at 7:50 p.m. Saul Munoz, 30, was arrested on suspicion of violating a protection order and taken to jail.
Noise complaint: Officers were called to a residence on West 24th Street for a noise complaint on May 25 at 12:03 a.m. Maria Derodrigue, 43, was issued a summons for noise disturbance.
Stolen bikes: On May 26 at 3:54 p.m., police took a report of stolen mountain bikes from West 25th Street. This case is under investigation
Cash stolen: Officers took a report of a theft from Walmart on May 26 at 7:25 p.m. The victim stated that he left his wallet on the pharmacy counter. When he came back into the store to get his wallet, someone had turned it into customer service, but more than $500 was missing. The case is under investigation.
Domestic violence: Officers responded to a disturbance call on East 18th Street on May 26 at 4:24 p.m. and arrested John Preston, 50, of Rifle, on suspicion of domestic violence and taken to jail.
Thefts: On May 27 at 8:40 a.m., officers took a report of several thefts from Jon’s Liquors, 401 W. Second St., that occurred on May 26. This case is under investigation.
Bike theft: On May 28, officers took a report of a stolen black Fit BMX style bike with purple wheels from the 400 block of Evergreen Drive. This case is under investigation.
Driving offenses: Police pulled a vehicle over for a traffic violation in the 300 block of West Third Street on May 28 at 8:56 p.m. and found the vehicle had fictitious plates and no insurance and the driver, Wilson Pelaez, 42, did not have a license. Pelaez was issued a summons for the offenses, the vehicle was impounded and the license plate was seized.
Thefts: On May 29 at 8:54 a.m., officers took a report of some coin-operated machines that had been broken into in the 800 block of South White River Avenue and a dishwasher that had been stolen. This case is under investigation.
