Rifle Police Department and Garfield County Sheriff’s Office Crime Report – May 22, 2014

Editor’s note: The Rifle Police Department and Garfield County Sheriff’s Office reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.

Criminal mischief: On May 4, police took a report of a criminal mischief incident in the 400 block of Evergreen Drive. The case is under investigation.



Harassment: On May 4, police took a report of harassment involving juveniles in the 400 block of West 5th Street.

Burglary: On May 4, officers took a report of a burglary from the 1700 block of Howard Avenue. The case is under investigation.



Order violation: Police responded to a call of a trespass in the 600 block of Clarkson Avenue on May 4. Diane Hyland, 52, of Rifle, was arrested on suspicion on two counts of violation of a protection order, domestic violence, harassment, obstructing government operations and disorderly conduct. She was taken to jail.

Fraud: Police responded to a call of fraud on South White River Avenue on May 5. Someone completed a false invoice and was paid for the services. The case remains under investigation.

Menacing: Officers responded to the 600 block of Railroad Avenue on May 5 for a disturbance. Dennis Pendall, 47, was arrested on suspicion of menacing and taken to jail.

Warrant arrest: On May 5, officers arrested Loyd Edward Fuller, 29, on a warrant for his arrest at West 26th Street and Willow Circle. He was taken to jail.

Dog bite: Deputies responded to a dog bite on Meadow Creek Drive in Battlement Mesa on May 5 at 6:20 p.m. The owner was located and the dog quarantined.

Warrant arrest: Deputies stopped a vehicle and contacted a man in the eastbound lanes of I-70 outside Rifle on May 5 at 11:49 a.m. Cody Allen Smith, 23, of Glenwood Springs, was arrested on an active warrant and taken to jail.

Menacing: Deputies arrested Michael A. Walker, 47, of New Castle, on suspicion of menacing in the 100 block of Rippy Lane outside New Castle on May 7 at 12:56 p.m. He was taken to jail.

Traffic arrest: Deputies stopped a vehicle near Tamarisk Trail and Stone Quarry Road in Battlement Mesa on May 7 at 9:32 a.m. Mathew Allen Parks, 27, of Battlement Mesa, was arrested on suspicion of having an open alcoholic beverage in his vehicle, failure to provide proof of insurance, driving with a revoked license and having a defective tail lamp. He was taken to jail.

Firearms summons: Officers contacted an allegedly intoxicated man at the intersection of Columbine Drive and Foxfire Drive on May 9. Bradley Kesler, 30, was allegedly found to be in possession of a loaded firearm. He was released from the scene on a summons for prohibited use of weapons.

Warrant arrest: Police arrested Mason Martin, 26, of Rifle, on an outstanding warrant on May 9. He was taken to jail.

Domestic violence: On May 9, Diane Hyland, 52, was arrested on suspicion of violation of a restraining order and domestic violence in the 600 block of Clarkson Avenue.

Vandalism: Deputies took a report of a vandalism incident on U.S. Highway 6 east of Rifle on May 9 at 3:01 p.m. The case is under investigation.

Harassment: Officers responded to a reported civil complaint on Coal Mine Avenue on May 10 and determined that an incident of domestic violence had allegedly occurred. Ivan Rodriguez-Guillen, 26, of Rifle, was arrested on suspicion of harassment, obstruction of phone services, driving with a revoked license, criminal mischief and domestic violence. He was taken to jail.

Dog attacks goat: On May 10 at 7:42 a.m., an animal control deputy responded to a call of a young goat that was injured by a dog in the 200 block of Rippy Lane outside New Castle. The dog’s owner, Joel Edward Musich, 44, of New Castle, was issued a summons for allowing his dog to harass livestock and to run at large. The goat’s owner tended to the goat’s injuries.

Traffic violation, warrant arrest: A deputy stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 400 block of West Second Street outside Rifle on May 10 at 11:42 a.m. Jairo Noe Carillo Ortega, 18, of Rifle, was arrested on suspicion of failure to signal a lane change, driving with a revoked license, possession of drug paraphernalia and on an active warrant. He was taken to jail.

Driving arrest: Deputies stopped a vehicle outside Silt on May 10 at 12:41 p.m. Domenick James Barnes, 28, of Fruita, was arrested on suspicion of improper backing and driving with a revoked license. He was taken to jail.

Domestic violence: Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance in the 800 block of West Battlement Parkway in Battlement Mesa on May 10 at 1:18 p.m. Jesse Cole Amonds, 28, of Glenwood Springs, was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, abuse of phone service, harassment and on an active warrant. He was taken to jail.

Revoked license: Deputies stopped a vehicle on County Road 219 outside Parachute on May 11 at 2:58 p.m. Lee Anne Armendariz, 48, of Olathe, was arrested on suspicion of driving with a revoked license and was taken to jail.

Theft: On May 13 at 4:59 p.m., deputies took a report of a theft of a trailer on County Road 331 outside Silt. The case is under investigation.

Burglary: On May 13 at 5:22 p.m., deputies responded to a burglary on River Frontage Road outside Silt. The case is under investigation.

Bite report: Deputies responded to an animal bite in the 100 block of Colt Drive outside Rifle on May 15 at 6:09 p.m. The animal was placed under quarantine.

Warrant arrest: Deputies contacted a man at the Garfield County Community Corrections building, 244 Hunter Mesa Shop Road, outside Rifle on May 15 at 11:18 a.m. Jonathon Anthony Sanchez, 20, of Rifle, was arrested on an active warrant and taken to jail.

Domestic violence: Deputies responded to a call on County Road 326 outside Silt on May 16 at 7:25 p.m. Marge Allred, 64, was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence and criminal mischief and taken to jail.

DUI: Deputies made a traffic stop in the 1600 block of Main Street in Silt on May 17 at 1:51 a.m. Rodney Jon Wagner, 48, of Rifle, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, driving with excessive alcohol content and weaving. He was taken to jail.

DUI: Deputies made a traffic stop near Monument Trail and Sagemont Circle in Battlement Mesa on May 17 at 10:01 p.m. Jesse V. Merry, 43, of Battlement Mesa, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, driving a defective vehicle and having a missing or defective turn signal. He was taken to jail.

Underage drinking: Deputies stopped a vehicle outside Rifle for a traffic offense on May 18 at 7:57 p.m. Six underage minors were issued summons for illegal possession or consumption of alcohol by an underage person, not wearing a seat belt and possession of suspected marijuana.
