Rifle Police Department & Garfield County Sheriff’s Office Crime Report – Aug. 8, 2013

Domestic violence: Officers responded to a disturbance in the 500 block of West 26th Street on July 25 at 7 p.m., where Dennis James Cobb, 24, of Rifle, was arrested on suspicion of assault and resisting arrest. He was taken to jail.

Warrant arrest: While investigating a separate matter in the 2400 block of Howard Avenue on July 25 at 8:26 p.m., officers contacted Vangie Archuleta, 34, of Rifle, who had an active warrant. She was arrested and released on bond.

Driving violations: Police stopped a vehicle for speeding in the 700 block of White River Avenue on July 25 at 9:28 p.m. The driver, Luis Alberto Aguilar, 20, of Rifle, was arrested on suspicion of speeding and driving under restraint. Aguilar was released with a summons.



Theft: On July 26 at 9:04 a.m., police took a report of theft of an item from the back yard of a home in the 1800 block of Anvil Court.

Theft: On July 26 at 3:40 p.m., officers took a report of theft from a vehicle in the 900 block of West 26th Street.



Fraud: On July 26 at 4:36 p.m., police took a report of fraud in the 2600 block of Apache Court, in which a man claimed to be with a cable TV company and told the victim to send funds for additional services.

Domestic violence: Police responded to a report of a domestic violence in the 1000 block of West 24th Street on July 26 at 8:19 p.m. James Nicholas Loftin, 34, of Rifle,,was arrested on suspicion of harassment and domestic violence and taken to jail.

Theft: On July 26 at 8:36 p.m., officers took a report that items had been stolen from a vehicle in the 900 block of Edelweiss Court. This case is under investigation.

Warrant arrest: Officers contacted Glen Madison Sell, 28, of Rifle, in the 100 block of East Third Street on July 27 at 3:45 a.m. and found he had several outstanding warrants. Sell was arrested and taken to jail.

Slashed tires: Officers responded to the 2400 block of Rail Avenue on July 27 at 7:35 a.m. for a report of criminal mischief where several automobile tires had been slashed.

Underage drinking: Police responded to a report of a fight in the 1200 block of Access Road on July 27 at 10:35 a.m. Upon arrival, officers were unable to find the reported fight. However, a minor was found to allegedly be in possession of alcohol but fled the scene. The case is under investigation.

Jacob Edward Murdock, 28, of Rifle, was found, arrested and taken to jail. While on the scene, Shasta Marie Girouard, 30, of Rifle, was arrested on a warrant for failure to pay fines and was taken to jail.

Domestic violence: Police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 1400 block of Jays Drive on July 28 at 12:36 a.m. Joie Lee McCumbee, 43, of Rifle, was arrested on suspicion of assault and domestic violence and was taken to jail.

Gas theft: Police took a report of gas theft in the 300 block of South Seventh Street on July 28 at 6:52 a.m. Officers have identified the suspect and the investigation continues.

Warrant arrest: Police, while investigating a separate matter in the 1400 block of Jays Drive on July 29 at 12:31 a.m., contacted April M. Bak, 34, of Rifle, who had an active warrant. She was arrested and taken to jail.

Sexual assault: On July 29 at 7:24 p.m., deputies took a report of a sex assault that allegedly occurred outside Rifle. The case is under investigation.

Traffic violations: Deputies stopped a vehicle on County Road 320 outside Rifle on July 29 at 1 p.m. A summons was issued to Pedro Ruiz Lopez, 54, of Rifle, for speeding, failure to have proof of insurance and having a fake license plate.

Harassment: Deputies responded to a disturbance on County Road 233 outside Silt on July 29 at 10:21 p.m. Brent A. McDonald, 49, of Silt, was arrested on suspicion of harassment and criminal mischief and taken to jail.

Vehicles damaged: Officers took a report of criminal mischief, trespass and theft from the 1500 block of Railroad Avenue on July 29 at 6:43 a.m. Several tires had been punctured, vehicles had been broken into and items were stolen.

Burglary: Police took a report of a burglary in the 100 block of East 26th Street on July 29 at 6:58 a.m., in which a business was broken into and items were stolen. The case is under investigation.

Shoplifting: Officers responded to a business in the 1000 block of Airport Road on July 29 at 10:34 p.m. for a report of shoplifting. Gregory Allen Troupe, 39, of Rifle, was arrested and later released with a summons for theft.

Theft: Deputies responded to a report of theft on County Road 346 outside Rifle on July 30 at 8:14 a.m. The case is inactive pending further leads.

Driving violations: Deputies stopped a vehicle in the eastbound lanes of I-70 near Rifle on July 30 at 6:04 a.m. for traffic violations. The driver, Phillip Lee Moreno, 42, of Clifton, was issued a summons for driving with a suspended license, failure to have proof of insurance and expired license plates. The vehicle was impounded.

Driving arrest: Deputies made a traffic stop in the 100 block of East 21st Street in Rifle on July 30 at 1:28 a.m. Cody Allen Smith, 22, of Rifle, was arrested on suspicion of trying to elude a police officer, failure to use turn signals and driving with a suspended license. He was taken to jail.

Warrant arrest: Police contacted a woman who was known to have a warrant in the 1800 block of White River Avenue on July 30 at 9:40 a.m. Mandi Hope Cornelius, 22, of Rifle, was arrested and taken to jail.

Disorderly arrest: Police responded to a suspicious incident in the 1000 block of West 24th Street on July 30 at 2:41 p.m. Throughout the investigation, a woman caused a disturbance and attempted to elude officers. April Leona Bates, 34, of Rifle, was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct and obstructing a peace officer. She was taken to jail.

Assault: On July 30 at 3:49 p.m., police took a report of an assault that allegedly occurred in the 100 block of East Eighth Street. The case is under investigation.

Assault arrest: Officers responded to an incident in the 100 block of West 26th Street on July 30 at 4:32 p.m. and contacted Douglas Thomas-Duary, 31, of Rifle, who was allegedly causing a disturbance. He was arrested on suspicion of criminal mischief, obstructing a peace officer and assault in the second degree. Thomas-Duary was taken to jail.
