Rifle Police Department & Garfield County Sheriff’s Office Crime Report – Dec. 19, 2013

The Rifle Police Department and Garfield County Sheriff’s Office reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.



Grinch steals Boy Scout Troop money: Sometime over the weekend of Dec. 13-15, Boy Scout Troop 223 in Rifle was robbed of money from the sale of Christmas trees next to Rocky Mountain Liquors, 1735 Railroad Ave. The troop has an honor system when nobody is attending the lot; people are asked to leave money in a barrel. The barrel was broken into and all the cash was taken. Police have no leads but the case is under investigation.



Dog at large: An animal control deputy impounded a golden retriever running in traffic near County Road 296 and Colorado Highway 13 near Rifle on Dec. 12 at 9:38 a.m. The dog‘s owner, Lilia Mendoza-Olivera, 38, of Rifle, was issued a summons for allowing the dog to run at large and not having it licensed.

Theft report: Deputies responded to a reported theft on Aspen Way in Battlement Mesa on Dec. 14 at 11:23 a.m. The case is inactive and closed pending further leads.

Dogs at large: An animal control deputy responded to a call of a dog running at large on U.S. Highway 6 east of Rifle on Dec. 15 at 11:25 a.m. Jorge Luis Ochoa-Montalban, 24, of Rifle, was issued a summons for the offense. Twenty minutes later, a similar report at the same location resulted in a summons for allowing a dog to run at large without a license issued to Sabrina Alice Holbrook, 33, of Rifle.

Harassment, order violation: Deputies responded to a disturbance in the 800 block of West Battlement Parkway in Battlement Mesa on Dec. 15 at 5:46 a.m. Michael Sunstar Lee, 30, of Battlement Mesa, was arrested on suspicion of harassment and violation of a restraining order and was taken to jail.

Stolen vehicles: Deputies took a report of a stolen vehicle outside Parachute on Dec. 16 at 11:01 a.m. About four hours later, deputies took a second report of a stolen vehicle from the Battlement Mesa area. The thefts are under investigation.

Industrial equipment theft: On Dec. 16 at 12:39 p.m., deputies took a report of stolen industrial equipment from outside Parachute area. The case is under investigation.

Warrant arrests: Deputies contacted two men who had active warrants for their arrest on Remington Street outside Rifle on Dec. 16 at 12:57 p.m. Jeffrey Martin Trevizo, 31, of Battlement Mesa, and Jeremy Thomas Ethington, 23, of Rifle, were both arrested and taken to jail.
