Rifle Police Department & Garfield County Sheriff’s Office Crime Report – Oct. 17, 2013

Editor’s note: The Rifle Police Department and Garfield County Sheriff’s Office reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.

Purse stolen: On Sept. 24 at 6:48 p.m., police took a report of the theft of a purse from a business in the 900 block of Airport Road.



Domestic violence: Police took a report of domestic violence and damaged property in the 1500 block of Railroad Avenue on Sept. 25 at 5:52 p.m. Diana Salido, 50, of Rifle, was arrested on suspicion of assault, domestic violence and criminal mischief for allegedly damaging a family member’s vehicle. She was taken to jail.

Fake plates: On Sept. 26 at 1:50 p.m., police contacted a vehicle for a traffic violation on the Colorado River Bridge on Colorado Highway 13 and found the vehicle had allegedly fictitious license plates. The vehicle was impounded and the driver, Lenard Vaughn, 25, was issued a summons for misuse of plates.



Attempted burglary: On Sept. 26 at 9:51 a.m., officers took a report of criminal mischief and attempted burglary at a business in the 1100 block of Railroad Avenue. The case is under investigation.

Vehicles vandalized: On Sept. 26 at 9:25 a.m., officers took a report that two vehicles were vandalized while parked near the 200 block of Railroad Avenue.

Drug activity: On Sept. 26 at 6:40 p.m., police contacted a vehicle in the 2300 block of Airport Road that was reported to have been involved in illegal drug activity. Several items were taken for further testing. A woman was arrested but later released without charges.

Domestic violence: Police responded to an assault in progress in the area of West 24th Street and Rail Avenue on Sept. 27 at 4:55 p.m., officers located a man and a woman reported to be involved. Christopher Allen McDermott, 22, of Rifle, was arrested and taken to jail on suspicion of domestic violence and harassment.

Threats: On Sept. 28 at 6:37 p.m., police received a report of a juvenile boy allegedly threatening to shoot other juveniles with a BB gun in the 300 block of Arnold Avenue. A parent seized the BB gun and gave it to police. The case is under investigation.

Warrant arrest: On Sept. 29 at 3:18 p.m., police arrested Erica Jaramillo, 31, of Rifle, for an active warrant in the 200 block of East 18th Street. She was taken to jail.

Order violation: Police responded to the probation office, 200 E. 18th St., for a report of a violation of a restraining order on Sept. 30 at 9:20 a.m. Larry G. Mayo, 50, of Rifle, was arrested and taken to jail for allegedly violating a protection order by consuming alcoholic beverages.

Assault: Police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 200 block of West 16th Street on Sept. 30 at 3:24 p.m. Robert Stanley Choate, 42, of Rifle, was arrested and taken to jail on suspicion of third degree assault and domestic violence.

Warrant arrest: Deputies responded to a call on County Road 333 outside Rifle on Sept. 30 at 8:34 a.m. of a man with an active warrant. Richard Charles Michael Dunning, 31, of Rifle, was arrested and taken to jail.

Stolen purse: On Sept. 30 at 7:31 p.m., police took a report that a purse was stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 600 block of Wapiti Court.

Warrant arrest: Deputies located a man with a warrant in the 100 block of East Tamarack Circle in Battlement Mesa on Oct. 1 at 6:02 p.m. Patrick Avila, 19, of Battlement Mesa, was arrested and taken to jail.

Warrant arrest: Deputies arrested a man in the 900 block of Main Street in Silt on Oct. 1 at 6:22 p.m. for a misdemeanor warrant. Shane Michael Mello, 24, of Silt, was taken to jail.

Stolen guns: On Oct. 2 at 6:26 a.m., police took a report of the theft of firearms from a locked vehicle parked in the 1200 block of East 18th Way. The case is under investigation.

Pot at school: Police learned of an alleged drug violation at Rifle High School, 1350 Prefontaine Ave., on Oct. 2 at 11:07 a.m. Three summons were issued to three juvenile girls, ages 15, 15 and 16, for possession of marijuana. They were released to their parents.

Warrant arrest: Jonathon Anthony Sanchez, 19, of Rifle, was arrested by police for two outstanding warrants in the 2600 block of Shawnee Court on Oct. 2 at 11:34 a.m. and was taken to jail.

Order violation: Eric Jordan Brown, 41, of Silt, was arrested by police at the probation office, 200 E. 18th St., on Oct. 2 at 3:47 p.m. for allegedly violating a protection order by consuming alcohol. He was taken to jail.

Order violation: Police received a report of an alleged restraining order violation in the 200 block of South Ninth Street on Oct. 2 at 7:36 p.m. Skyler Lynn Peter, 26, of Rifle, was arrested and taken to jail on suspicion of violation of a restraining order.

Theft: On Oct. 2 at 2:27 p.m., a deputy took a report of a theft on County Road 346 outside Silt. The case is closed pending further leads.

Gas theft: On Oct. 3 at 9:12 a.m., police took a report of a theft of fuel from a business in the 100 block of East First Street.

Warrant arrest: Officers arrested Jeffrey Dewayne Jones, 49, of Rifle, in the 3000 block of Coal Mine Avenue on Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. for an active warrant.

Bike theft: Police received a report that a bicycle was stolen from near a bus stop in the 1700 block of Railroad Avenue on Oct. 3 at 8:26 p.m. The bicycle was locked.

Theft: On Oct. 3 at 9:59 p.m., police received a report that an electronic item was stolen from a customer at a business in the 1300 block of Railroad Avenue. The case is under investigation.

Warrant arrest: Deputies saw two people pushing a car on Colorado State Highway 82 outside Glenwood Springs on Oct. 4 at 3:27 a.m. Preston Arthur King, 24, of Rifle, was found to have an active arrest warrant and was taken to jail.

Pot arrest: Deputies contacted the driver of a vehicle on County Road 244 and the Hubbard Road turnoff on Oct. 4 at 3:33 p.m. Daniel Alejandro Garcia Najera, 18, of Rifle, was arrested on suspicion of theft, possession of marijuana, driving a vehicle with a revoked license and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to jail.

Warrant arrest: Deputies made a traffic stop on the Colorado Highway 13 bypass on Oct. 5 at 1:09 p.m. Cody Byers, 27, of Casper, Wyo., was arrested on an outstanding warrant and taken to jail.

Warrant arrest: Deputies made a traffic stop at the Colorado Highway 13 Bypass and Howard Avenue intersection on Oct. 5 at 1:15 a.m. Monique Leticia Contreras, 32, of Rifle, was arrested on suspicion of criminal impersonation, possession of drug paraphernalia and on an active warrant. She was taken to jail.

Domestic violence: Deputies responded to a domestic dispute on County Road 312 outside New Castle on Oct. 5 at 12:14 p.m. Ann Marie Miller, 60, of New Castle, was arrested on suspicion of harassment and domestic violence and taken to jail.
