Rifle Police Department & Garfield County Sheriff’s Office report – May 23, 2013

Editor’s note: The Rifle Police Department and Garfield County Sheriff’s Office reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.

Theft: On May 4 at 9:19 p.m., officers investigated a report of theft from Walmart, 1000 Airport Road.

Shoplifting: On May 5 at 6:12 p.m., officers responded to Walmart, 1000 Airport Road, for a report of theft. Following investigation, a 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy from Parachute were each issued a summons for theft and released to their guardians.

Theft: Officers received a report of theft of electronics from Walmart, 1000 Airport Road, on May 5 at 7:32 p.m. Richard Griego, 28, of Montrose, was located while traveling on I-70. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted theft and theft.

Disturbance: Police responded to the 1000 block of West 24th Street on May 6 at 6:04 a.m. for a report of a disturbance. It was determined no crime occurred.

Order violation: On May 6 at 9:17 a.m., police received a report of a protection order violation. Daniel Jeffrey Thomas, 33, of Meeker, was arrested on suspicion of violating a restraining order, domestic violence and harassment. He was taken to jail.

Sex offender violation: Police are investigating an incident of failure to register as a sex offender on May 6 at 11:24 a.m. A warrant is being sought.

Sexual exploitation: On May 6 at 8:27 p.m., officers took a report of possible Internet sexual exploitation of a child.

Assault report: On May 6 at 9:45 p.m., police received a report of an assault that possibly occurred in Rifle. The victim was uncooperative and the case was closed.

Warrant arrest: Deputies contacted a man on County Road 333 outside Rifle on May 7 at 6:51 p.m. After investigation, Gilberto Flores-Ortega, 20, of Silt, was arrested on an active warrant and taken to jail.

Sex offender violation: On May 7 at 11:11 a.m., police took a report of an incident of failure to register as a sex offender. A warrant is being sought.

Sexual assault: Police investigated a report of a sexual assault on a child on May 7 at 8:43 p.m. Alexander David Larocque, 22, of Rifle, was arrested on suspicion of three counts of sexual assault on a child by Text ColorSwatch/NoneStrokeStyle/$ID/SolidText ColorSwatch/NoneStrokeStyle/$ID/SolidText ColorText ColorText ColorText Colorone in a position of trust. He was taken to jail.

Sexual assault: On May 8 at 9:30 p.m., deputies received a report of a sexual assault that occurred in the Rifle area. The case is open and under investigation.

Warrant arrest: Deputies contacted a man in the 100 block of Silver Queen Circle in Battlement Mesa on May 8 at 6:37 a.m. Richard Frederick Wille, 64, of Parachute, was taken into custody on a warrant and taken to jail.

Theft: On May 9 at 7 a.m., deputies learned of the theft of less than $500 from a home on West Carson Circle in Battlement Mesa. The case is under investigation.

Harassment: Deputies responded to a disturbance on Rosewood Way in Battlement Mesa on May 9 at 12:56 a.m. Destiny Anne Scovill, 37, of Parachute, was arrested on suspicion of harassment and third degree assault and was taken to jail.

Harassment: On May 9 at 4:12 p.m., police received a report of harassment between co-workers. Edna Maria Vasquez, 31, of Rifle, was issued a summons for harassment.

Disorderly conduct: Abie Montoya, 45, of Rifle, was arrested in the 700 block of South White River Avenue on May 10 at 9:39 a.m. on suspicion of disorderly conText ColorSwatch/NoneStrokeStyle/$ID/SolidText ColorSwatch/NoneStrokeStyle/$ID/SolidText ColorText ColorText ColorText Colorduct after he was observed displaying a gun and knife (later learned to be a BB gun) in public. He was taken to jail.

Order violation: Officers are investigating a report of a restraining order violation in the 100 block of East 26th Street received on May 10 at 9:32 p.m.

Theft: Officers responded to a theft from a business in the 1000 block of Airport Road on May 11 at 9:18 p.m. Leroy Heald, 33, of Rifle, was issued a summons for theft.

Domestic violence: Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at a home along U.S. Highway 6 east of Rifle on May 12 at 11:50 a.m. After investigation, Oscar Adrian Soto Fermen, 19, of Rifle, was arrested on suspicion of harassment and domestic violence. He was taken to jail.

DUI: Officers contacted a vehicle for a Text ColorSwatch/NoneStrokeStyle/$ID/SolidText ColorSwatch/NoneStrokeStyle/$ID/SolidText ColorText ColorText ColorText Colortraffic infraction in the 500 block of Railroad Avenue on May 12 at 12:43 a.m. The driver, Fabian Diaz Alonzo, 25, of Glenwood Springs, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a forged instrument, DUI, no proof of insurance, and defective tail lamps and reflectors. Alonzo was taken to jail.

Fight: Police are investigating a fight that occurred in the 300 block of Railroad Avenue on May 12 at 1:51 a.m.

Warrant arrest: On May 12 at 10:43 a.m., officers located and, after a short foot pursuit near East Seventh Street and Elder Court, arrested Lester Charles Hays, 44, of Rifle, for outstanding warrants, suspicion of parole violations and drug charges. He was taken to jail.

Car keyed: On May 12 at 7:43 p.m., police received a report that a car was allegedly “keyed” in the 600 block of West 24th Street.

Assault arrest: Deputies responded to a family disturbance on County Road 335 outside New Castle on May 13 at 3:38 p.m. After investigation, Daniel Pattangall, 25, of Parachute, was arrested on suspicion of second degree assault, attempted assault and vehicular assault. He was taken to jail.

Fence damaged: On May 14 at 10:18 a.m., officers received a report that a fence had been damaged in the 1100 block of Park Avenue.

Pot possession: Deputies took a report of a male juvenile smoking marijuana in the Slit area on May 14 at 12:11 a.m. He was issued a summons for possession of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia and released to a guardian.

Warrant arrest: Deputies stopped a vehicle near New Castle for a traffic violation on May 14 at 11:33 a.m. Bryon Lee Galliher, 28, of Rifle, was arrested on suspicion of Text ColorSwatch/NoneStrokeStyle/$ID/SolidText ColorSwatch/NoneStrokeStyle/$ID/SolidText ColorText ColorText ColorText Colordriving with a suspended license, speeding and on an active warrant. He was taken to jail.

Order violations: Deputies contacted Richard Owen Truitt, 35, of Battlement Mesa, in relation to a protection order and traffic violation on Little Echo Drive in Battlement Mesa on May 14 at 5:59 p.m. Text ColorSwatch/NoneStrokeStyle/$ID/SolidText ColorSwatch/NoneStrokeStyle/$ID/SolidText ColorText ColorText ColorText ColorHe was arrested on suspicion of violating a restraining order and bail bond conditions, along with domestic violence. Truitt was taken to jail.

Criminal mischief: Deputies responded to a disturbance on Morning Star Drive in Text ColorSwatch/NoneStrokeStyle/$ID/SolidText ColorSwatch/NoneStrokeStyle/$ID/SolidText ColorText ColorText ColorText ColorBattlement Mesa on May 15 at 9:59 p.m. and arrested Brandan Charles Cannon, 22, of Battlement Mesa, on suspicion of criminal mischief. He was taken to jail.

Harassment: Deputies responded to a call on Cedar Drive outside Silt on May 16 at 5:59 p.m. John Eric Mikesell, 33, of Silt, was arrested on suspicion of prohibited use of a weapon, harassment and criminal mischief and taken to jail.

Harassment: Deputies responded to a disturbance in the 200 block of Black Hawk Trail in Battlement Mesa on May 17 at 9:25 p.m. Jose Antonio Garcia, 53, of Battlement Mesa, was arrested on suspicion of harassment.

Burglary: Deputies took a report of a burglary in the 100 block of Lodgepole Circle in Battlement Mesa on May 18 at 12:32 a.m. The case is closed pending further leads.

Order violations: Deputies responded to a call of violation of restraining order in Battlement Mesa on May 19 at 11:13 p.m. Carrie Ann Kalaher, 41, of Battlement Mesa, was arrested on suspicion of violation of a restraining order and bail bond conditions. She was taken to jail.

Driving offenses: A deputy stopped a vehicle in Rifle for a traffic violation on May 19 at 6:21 p.m. The driver, David Allen Phelps, 49, of Rifle, was issued a summons for no proof of insurance and having an invalid license plate.
