Seven people turn in Rifle City Council petitions and seek four seats in Sept. 10 election

One incumbent Rifle City Council member and six other city residents submitted signed petitions to run for one of four seats on the council by the Monday, July 1, deadline, according to City Clerk Lisa Cain.

The candidates in the Sept. 10 municipal election, in alphabetical order:

• Sara Brainard,

• Barbara Clifton,

• Steven Fuller,

• Dirk Myers,

• Wilma Paddock,

• Hans Parkinson and

• Randy Winkler.

Cain said the order of placement of the candidates’ names on the ballot will be determined by drawing names out of a hat in the next week or so.

Three other current City Council members — Keith Lambert, Alan Lambert and Jennifer Sanborn — decided not to seek re-election. Winkler is the incumbent council member seeking another term.

The top four vote getters in the election will serve four-year terms and would join current council members Jonathan Rice and Rich Carter, along with Mayor Jay Miller.

Cain said mail-in ballots would be sent to registered city voters the week of Aug. 19.
