Silt 19-year-old was crash victim
The person killed Saturday in a crash on Colorado 13 north of Rifle has been identified as a Silt teenager.
According to a news release from Colorado State Patrol, troopers arrived on scene of the accident at about 12:32 p.m. near milepost 19 in Rio Blanco County, about halfway between Rifle and Meeker.
The southbound vehicle was a gray 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe pulling a trailer and driven by Paul Matson, 71, from Centennial. The second vehicle was northbound, a 2000 Ford F-350 pickup pulling a trailer, was driven by Brodie Tiffany, 19, from Silt with one additional male occupant.
The Hyundai traveled off the right side of the road. Matson overcorrected and the Hyundai traveled back onto the highway and into the oncoming, northbound, lane of traffic and collided with the Ford pickup. After impact, the Ford pickup overturned, coming to rest on its roof.
Tiffany was pronounced dead at the scene. The male passenger was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
All passengers in the Hyundai were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash was being investigated by the Colorado State Patrol. Neither impairment nor excessive speed was suspected as a contributing factor. All occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
