TRIO Day celebrates success in school and giving back

Debbie Crawford
Colorado Mountain College- Public Information Officer

High school and college students throughout Colorado Mountain College’s service area will be helping at Habitat for Humanity’s building projects and ReStores on Feb. 25, the 2017 National TRIO Day of Service.

In addition, from Feb. 20 to 24, students are coordinating food drives, benefitting LiftUp and the Salvation Army. Called Cans Around Campus, the drive has drop off sites at the following Colorado Mountain College locations: Carbondale, Glenwood Springs, Spring Valley, Leadville, Steamboat Springs, Edwards and Central Services administrative offices in Glenwood Springs.

For millions of students who strive to be the first in their families to successfully attend and graduate from college, TRIO, a federally funded program, is making a world of difference. For over 50 years, TRIO programs have been providing valuable support services to students.

Two TRIO programs, Upward Bound and Student Support Services, are available through different Colorado Mountain College campuses.

Upward Bound prepares high school students for higher education, supporting students through mentoring, instruction and enrichment courses.

Student Support Services offers college students the support needed to be successful in college and earn a degree. These students receive tutoring, counseling and academic support, career exploration opportunities, and financial aid and literacy support.
