Two die in I-70 crash west of Glenwood Springs
Two people were killed and three others injured in a single-vehicle rollover Monday afternoon about 20 miles west of Glenwood Springs.
A 33-year-old Illinois woman and her son, a 13-year-old male, were killed, according to a Garfield County coroner’s report.
Traveling with them were the woman’s two daughters and her fiancé. All three were transported to a local hospital in Rifle, the report said. Their condition was unknown at press time.
Garfield County authorities reported at 5:45 p.m. that westbound Interstate 70 was closed at mile marker 97 because of the accident. Drivers reported backups as far east as Silt at 6:30 p.m. Traffic was being detoured onto U.S. 6 closer to the accident site.
A Colorado State Patrol spokesman said at 7 p.m. that the westbound lanes would be closed for some time for the investigation and clean-up.
The deaths are being investigated as accidental.
